Dr. Katy Swafford

Dr. Katy Swafford is a licensed Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with a wide variety of people and problems. She has always been interested in the body in psychotherapy and served on the Board of Directors for the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy for 11 years.

In the early 90’s she discovered the work of Dr. Akhter Ahsen and realized his work with Eidetic Images was the bridge between working with the mind and working with the body. Working with him personally and through workshops and training, Akhter Ahsen became her teacher, mentor, and friend.  Founding the Eidetic Institute in 2005, Dr. Swafford brought together Dr. Ahsen’s work with her own understanding of Systems Theory, the quantum science approach often used in working with families.  According to these theories, a change in the system is a deep and permanent kind of change and Ahsen’s structural image approach and method for working within the image offers just that – a change that makes a difference.

More about Dr. Ahsen

Akhter Ahsen, PhD is a widely recognized theorist in the study of consciousness. According to Dr. Ahsen, the image is the organizing principle of mind as opposed to thought. In other words, we think in images.

Over 30 books and many journal articles chronicle his research in case studies and theoretical explorations of how images in the mind affect the body.  Topics cover a wide range of applications from learning, to trauma, substance abuse, and most recently, memory and autism.  His fundamental principles of mind and the mind/body interaction offer a way of understanding consciousness and a fast and focused method for change.
